Traditional Reserves Policies and Procedures

  1. Who can use traditional course reserves?
Instructors can put materials on reserve at the Medical Center Library for their students to check out and use within the library.

  2. Where are reserve materials kept?
Reserve books and materials are kept behind the Circulation Desk where they may be checked out.

  3. Can I reserve items other than books for my students?
Yes. We currently checkout bones, skulls, laptops, dry erase markers, headphones, cds, and videos.

  4. How long can reserve items be checked out?
Most reserve items can be checked out for use within the library for up to 4 hours. However, instructors can choose different checkout periods for their items, such as 2 hours, 1 day, or 2 weeks.

  5. How can I put materials on reserve?
Contact the Reserves Manager in person at the Circulation Desk, by phone at (314) 9778800, or by email ereshsc@slu.edu. Please include the name, number, instructor, and duration of the course for which you are requesting reserves. If you are requesting to put a library-owned book on reserve, please include the title and call number. If you are requesting to put a personal copy of a book on reserve, please bring it to the library or send it by interoffice mail to the Reserves Manager.

  6. Can I put a book from another library on reserve for my students?
No. We cannot add books or items owned by other libraries to our reserve collection. If the Medical Center Library does not own a book you would like to put on reserve for your class, contact your liaison librarian to put in a request for the library to buy a copy.
